Fake reports of Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, ex-captain of the national Cricket team, were spread on various social media platforms today. Many even went so far as to publish “breaking news” reporting that he had no symptoms of being Covid positive. Mashrafe himself has denied the reports on his Facebook page earlier today, saying, “The reports claiming me to be Covid negative are not true.”
Earlier, on June 22, rumours circulating on social media sites claimed that the beloved ex-captain had been denied a bed after seeking admission at the Combined Military Hospital after testing Covid positive. Mashrafe had refuted those rumours as well, clarifying that he had not sought admission or a bed at CMH.
Covid positive Mashrafe is receiving treatment and recovering at home.
FactKhuji investigation revealed that the fake news portals cited SomoyTV as the source for the recent rumours, but SomoyTV was found to have had no connection to spreading the false reports regarding Mashrafe.
