Shameem Ara Sheuli

Shameem Ara Sheuli is by training a journalist, media researcher, knowledge management expert and program management specialist. Currently, she is working as the Head of Program at Internews, Bangladesh Country Office. She worked as a journalist for over a decade in print, electronic and online media. She worked as a Producer News for Bangladesh Television (BTV), the country’s state-run television channel. She was a Joint News Editor at Maasranga Television and a Deputy News Editor at Independent Television. She covered many events at home and abroad as a reporter while stories got published in national dailies and online news portals. 

She obtained a Joint Master’s in Journalism, Media and Globalization as an Erasmus Mundus Fulbright Scholar from Aarhus University Denmark in 2018 and Swansea University in UK in 2019. She has done her first master’s degree in Mass Communication and Journalism from the University of Dhaka in 1999. 

Shameem also taught at American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) as a lecturer at the Department of Media and Mass Communication (MMC). She worked for the International Research and Exchange Board (IREX), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and Disaster Forum Bangladesh. She is one of the co-founders of Institute of Communication Studies (ICS). 

She has been a cultural activist and student leader in her student life. She was an executive member of the Dhaka University Debating Society (DUDS) and achieved a number of award in debating competitions. Shameem is a member of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ), Solution Journalism Network and Women Journalists Network Bangladesh (WJNB).

M Abul Kalam Azad

M Abul Kalam Azad has 23 years of experience in writing stories and essays for English language newspapers and news agencies. He is the Special Story Editor at Dhaka Tribune after serving two other English dailies–The Daily Star and New Age–as Chief Reporter and Senior Reporter. He began journalism as a Campus Reporter while doing his Masters at the University of Dhaka) in 1997.

Azad has written stories on wide ranges of issues, including politics, elections, crimes, corruption, natural disasters, right to information and violent extremism. He also contributed stories for the Associated Press (AP) and Deutsche Welle (DW). Currently, he is doing a research on Women and Extremism in Bangladesh.

Azad did his post-graduation in Mass Communication and Journalism from the University of Dhaka. He also studied violent extremism at Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University under Asia Journalism Fellowship (AJF).

He is the author of Media Landscape: Bangladesh published by the European Journalism Centre (EJC) in 2018.

Md Shahidul Islam

Md Shahidul Islam is a researcher at University of Lapland. He is conducting PhD in the field of media education. Former print and online journalist Shahidul has been studying mass communication and journalism since the mid-1990s. He has special interest in Information and Communication Technology’s (ICT’s) impact on mass media and the role of journalists in society. 

 

He did post-graduation from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He also earned Master’s degree from the UK’s Middlesex University and the University of Lapland. Prior to commencing PhD, he was the Chief Businfaceess Correspondent of Finland Times, the first English newspaper in Finland.

Mahabub Alam Khan

Mahabub Alam Khan has 21 years of experience in both print and broadcast journalism. He began his reporting career as a print journalist with Bengali daily Matribhumi in 1999. Later, he joined another Bengali newspaper Mukta Kantha before switching to English language newspaper New Age. In 2005, Mahabub joined Bangladesh Vision, a private television station, as its Senior Sports Reporter. 

He introduced a 30-minute Sports Show, first of its kind in the country when he was head of Sport at now-defunct CSB TV. He also worked for several other news-based television stations, including ATN News, Somoy TV, Independent TV, RTV as Head of Sports, Special Correspondent, News Editor and Senior News Editor. 

Mahabub, who did his graduation in MasFaces Communication and Journalism from the University of Dhaka, is a professional animator. He has special interest in cartoon and art works.

Tanvir Hassan Zoha

An Assistant Professor of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT), Tanvir Hassan Zoha is known for his vast knowledge and expertise in cybersecurity in Bangladesh and several other countries. As a digital forensic and ICT law expert, he has been training various professionals, including members of the Bangladesh Police and journalists.

Tanvir has a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Ahsan Ullah University of Science and Technology. He did his post-graduation in Communication Engineering from United International University.

Rakib Ahmed

A former print journalist Rakib Ahmed is now an Associate Professor at the Department of Journalism and Media Studies of Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh. Before becoming a faculty, he worked for the Dhaka-based newspaper, The Daily Star, for six years. He is a media and development researcher. 

He has completed an MA in Development Studies, major in Human Rights, Gender and Conflict Studies, from the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS), the Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Before that he completed his BSS (Honours) and MSS in Mass Communication and Journalism from the University of Dhaka.
